"Child of a King" by Lindsey Shuler
Oh- how amazing is our father!
He is the ultimate victor
Conqueror of fear, strife and death.
Death, you have no sting
Because of the life and joy my father brings
To Him my heart sings-
“O forever I will praise you
Because I am among princes and kings!”
Before- when I was lost-
You saw me broken, dirty, naked- a slave.
Hungry, I stole bread from the wayside
Thirsty, I drank the dirty and bitter water my master gave.
Filled with compassion, you-A King- called me forth
You paid a great price to buy me from my former master.
Then you brought me to your home
There you washed me,
You clothed me in fine, pure clothing
Clothing whiter than snow-
Softer than wool-
you called me your own
Forever a daughter; No longer a slave.
He is the ultimate victor
Conqueror of fear, strife and death.
Death, you have no sting
Because of the life and joy my father brings
To Him my heart sings-
“O forever I will praise you
Because I am among princes and kings!”
Before- when I was lost-
You saw me broken, dirty, naked- a slave.
Hungry, I stole bread from the wayside
Thirsty, I drank the dirty and bitter water my master gave.
Filled with compassion, you-A King- called me forth
You paid a great price to buy me from my former master.
Then you brought me to your home
There you washed me,
You clothed me in fine, pure clothing
Clothing whiter than snow-
Softer than wool-
you called me your own
Forever a daughter; No longer a slave.
